Rhim'n Rhythm

As of 1981, Yale's vibrant a cappella scene featured a dozen underclass groups of every variety. But seven senior women felt that something key was missing from their own musical experience - a senior group for women. In Yale's collegiate a cappella tradition in which singers stay with their a cappella groups just through their junior years, and in which senior men had the opportunity to continue singing and tour the world as members of The Whiffenpoofs, these seven seniors founded Whim n' Rhythm as a place for senior women and an answer to the decades-old tradition of The Whiffenpoofs. Thirty years later, the 14 singers of Whim n' Rhythm continue to represent the best and most experienced women singers of the senior class.

Celebrating our 30th anniversary in the 2010-2011 school year, Whim has grown into a full-force presence on Yale's campus, and on both the national and international stage. The group tours domestically and in the greater New England area yearly, visiting locations from New York and Los Angeles to Hong Kong and Cairo. Moreover, Whim recently founded a full-fledged Alumnae Board to help build the group's legacy from beyond Yale's campus. Post-commencement, the group traditionally takes a four-to-six week World Tour, hitting nearly every continent.

Prospective singers audition in the spring of their junior year to be tapped into Whim for their senior year the following fall. Whim 2013 represents nearly every underclass singing group that feautres women, as well as a variety of residential colleges, academic majors, and hometowns ranging from coast to coast and beyond.
